The International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICAASP) is the yearly flagship conference of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. The conference is usually dispersed over four or more days. Leading experts in the various applied fields of signal processing gather together to speak on and discuss developments in the field.
About and Brief History
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Professional Group on Audio of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) which preceded it, has for over 70 years been at the forefront of signal processing. It has educated both specialists in the field as well as the broader public and facilitated groundbreaking technological advances. The current membership of the IEEE is over 19,000 dynamic engineers, academic, professionals, and students from over 100 countries.
In 1976 the IEEE began a yearly conference to bring specialists from all over the world together in one event. The ICASSP is the broadest and most detailed technical conference on signal processing, and it’s varied applications. The conference is a joint effort of all of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Technical Committees which include such fields as Bio-Imaging, Information Forensics and Security, Machine Learning for Signal Processing and Signal Processing for Communications and Networking, just to name a few.
All records which are taken of its events are recorded into the engineering bibliographic database EI Compendex. As of 2016, the conference has the highest h-index of any conference in the field of Signal Processing according to the Google Scholar’s H-index Matrix.
Conference Aims and Objectives
ICAASP aims to bring together leading researchers, academic scientists as well as research scholars to share and exchange their research results and experiences in all areas of Signal processing, Acoustics, and Speech. It also offers a platform for premier interdisciplinary interactions among practitioners, researchers, and educators to discuss and present the most recent concerns, innovations and trends as well as the challenges faced and solutions utilised in the fields of Signal Processing, Acoustics, and Speech.
ICASSP 2017 was held from March 5th to 9th in New Orleans. The 2018 conference was initially to be held in Seoul, South Korea however due to rising political tensions the SPS Executive Committees voted unanimously to move it to another location.
After lengthy discussions and taking into account the last minute nature of the change Calgary, Alberta, Canada was selected to host the 2018 ICAASP from April 15–20.
The Future is Bright
Drawing from a rich 70-year history as well as the 41 years of success, ICASSP is considered to be the top conference in the signal processing field. It continues to draw together the best and brightest to push the industry forward into a bright, rich and fantastic future.
